Where are my readers? Ah yes, there you are!
While nonfiction books are great for learning new topics, I know they’re not everyone’s cup of tea. And so, here are 3 amazing fiction books that will teach you something about science and/or faith without the slog of nonfiction prose.
1. Life of Pi by Yan Martel
After being stranded in the open ocean on a lifeboat with no other companion but a Bengal tiger, Pi Patel examines his lifelong love for God and religion while struggling to stay alive. While at its core a survivorship story, this book is a love letter to zoos and a thorough examination of what makes religion both attractive and helpful.

“I know zoos are no longer in people’s good graces. Religion faces the same problem. Certain illusions about freedom plague them both.”

2. Watership Down by Richard Adams
Ever wonder what life is like for a wild rabbit? Enter into this fantastical world of burrows, warrens, voyages, and warfare that takes you far beyond the revelations of The Velveteen Rabbit and The Tale of Peter Rabbit. Under its legends and prophecies, you will find this book is really the most creative manual of good leadership ever written— and you will never look at a bunny the same way again.
“‘Animals don’t behave like men,’ he said. ‘If they have to fight, they fight; and if they have to kill they kill. But they don’t sit down and set their wits to work to devise ways of spoiling other creatures’ lives and hurting them. They have dignity and animality.’”
3. Lilith by George MacDonald
When a young graduate notices a large, raven-like shadow in his mansion’s library, the veil between himself and another world becomes dangerously thin. You’ll encounter dancing skeletons, a family of orphans, and a spotted leopardess in this gothic portal fantasy. Thick with allegory, this book was hailed as a classic by literary masters such as C.S. Lewis and G.K. Chesterton.

“Our life is no dream, but it should and will perhaps become one.”
